THE HEADQUARTERS · 145 BROADWAY, KENDALL SQUARE

One path through 19 floors

Akamai used to lease six buildings around Kendall Square; in 2019 it brought 1,800 local employees into one 19-story tower. A continuous route called the AkaMile starts in the lobby and runs up through every floor on a chain of interconnecting stairs, linking libraries, cafés, game rooms and lounges, and ends at a cafeteria on the top two floors. Each floor is color-coded from orange to blue, Akamai's brand colors, and a pattern of lines on floors and ceilings traces Akamai offices around the world — denser where people gather, sparser near quiet desks. Command and control centers run 24/7/365, watching internet traffic and fighting DDoS attacks.
