A department store, kept open from floor to floor
Adyen moved its headquarters into the former Hudson's Bay department store on the Rokin. Interior studio TANK kept the open “department-store feel”: every floor stays open for daylight and plants, one shared staircase links all floors, and a large kitchen serves lunch for the whole team with views over the city.

Adyen was founded in 2006 in Amsterdam by a group of entrepreneurs including Pieter van der Does and Arnout Schuijff. Schuijff signed Adyen's first office lease and hired its first engineers that year.

Adyen expanded its Amsterdam office in the first half of 2018 and listed on Euronext Amsterdam on June 13, 2018. By the end of the year the team was 873 FTE, and more than half of the people hired in the second half worked outside the Amsterdam HQ.

In the first half of 2020 Adyen invested in new offices for future growth: one in Warsaw and a second, larger office in Amsterdam. The team reached 1,747 FTE by year end.

Adyen invested significantly in its office on the Rokin, a one-off expansion of its Amsterdam offices. Its headquarters opened in the former Hudson's Bay department store; the team counted 2,180 FTE at the end of 2021.

Adyen has never left central Amsterdam. Its registered head office is on the Oosterdok island near Central Station, and since 2021 its largest office has filled a former department store on the Rokin, about 1.3 km away.

What Adyen does
Adyen started in 2006 as a payments company built entirely in-house. Today it calls itself a financial technology platform: end-to-end payments online and in stores, data, and financial products such as issuing and business accounts, for customers like Meta, Uber, H&M, eBay and Microsoft.
