THE HEADQUARTERS · SORRENTO VALLEY, SAN DIEGO

A tower with a concert hall inside

Qualcomm's headquarters building, known as N, opened in 2007: a 10-story steel building of about 474,000 sq ft designed by Delawie, with a seven-story atrium, a café, a fitness center, a courtyard with an outdoor stage and a heliport on the roof. On the first floor is the Irwin M. Jacobs auditorium — 534 seats with flown acoustic reflectors that let it switch between engineering lectures, digital cinema and symphony concerts. Next door, the 12-story engineering building W (2010) brought the campus close to a million more square feet.
