Office floors rebuilt around focus rooms, project areas and alcoves, on the same Zuffenhausen site where every 911 still comes off one production line.

The offices, the canteens and the benefits first, then 95 years of moves from a city-centre engineering office to a 600,000 m² site — and only then the money. Every fact from Porsche's own report, newsroom, careers site and architects.

Offices built around how teams work — next to the 911 line

Porsche is rolling out one office concept across all its buildings and sites: activity-based floors with focus rooms, project areas and alcoves, common rooms for exchange, and seating niches along the passageways. Porsche says the goal is to keep its “garage feeling” and make the brand's culture visible in the office design. Around the offices sit the plants where the 911, the 718 and the Taycan are built, and the Porsche Museum on Porscheplatz.

Office history: from a city-centre engineering office to a 600,000 m² site

  1. 1931
An engineering office at Kronenstrasse 24

Ferdinand Porsche opened his engineering office in central Stuttgart, right next to the main railway station, and did contract design work for other carmakers. The garages at the Porsche villa on Feuerbacher Weg were used to build the first customer-commissioned vehicles.

  2. 1938
    Plant 1 in Zuffenhausen

The cornerstone was laid in November 1937 at Spitalwaldstrasse and Schwieberdinger Strasse. On June 26, 1938, 176 employees moved from downtown into the three-storey brick building by architect Richard Pfob, on a site of about three hectares. It became the company's headquarters.

  3. 1944
    Wartime move to Gmünd, Austria

Air raids on Stuttgart's industrial north forced the offices and part of production to Gmünd in Carinthia, where the first 52 cars of the 356 were built by hand.

  4. 1950
Back to Zuffenhausen, in a rented hall

Plant 1 was still held by the US Army, so Porsche rented a hall at the neighbouring Reutter body plant. The first Zuffenhausen-built 356 was completed there on April 6, 1950.

    Plant 2 by Rolf Gutbrod

Because Plant 1 was handed back late, Porsche opened Plant 2, designed by Stuttgart architect Rolf Gutbrod. In 1960 it added Plant 3 for sales, customer service and spare parts; in 1963 it bought Reutter and doubled its staff to about 2,000.

Delugan Meissl's museum, decided in 2004 and completed in December 2008, opened at Porscheplatz 1 — today's company address. Porsche calls it a meeting place for employees, design lovers and fans.

    The site more than doubles

Buying neighbouring sites, including the former Layher, Deltona and Daimler plots, took the plant area from 284,000 to 614,000 m². Plant 4 became the first industrial quarter to win the DGNB's top Platinum certificate.

What Porsche does

Porsche builds sports cars — the 911, 718, Taycan, Macan, Cayenne and Panamera — and finances and leases them. The 911 and 718 come from Zuffenhausen, the Macan and Panamera from Leipzig.
