THE HEADQUARTERS · AKZONOBEL CENTER · 2016

Two atria, a colour for every floor, and art on the ground floor

The AkzoNobel Center in Amsterdam's Zuidas has a layered façade of glass and timber. Inside, two linked atria form the backbone: the first holds the entrance, reception, restaurant and the public Art Space, with an auditorium on the first floor; the second connects to the office floors. Colour is concentrated around the atrium and each floor has its own colour tone, which reflects on the ceilings as a vertical colour spectrum that grows stronger towards evening — a reference to the paint company itself.
