THE HEADQUARTERS · BAIDU CAMPUS, SHANGDI · 2009

Three courtyards and open meeting spots, built around “simple and reliable”

The architect, CADG, started from Baidu's motto “simple and reliable.” Three office wings — reserved, functional and research offices — close around a central shared block to form three connected courtyards, with meeting spaces of different openness for the constant interaction of an IT company. The west façade has evenly spaced metal blinds; on the east, glass louvres set at different angles make a wavy outline meant to suggest endless innovation. Baidu moved in in November 2009.
