THE NEWEST WORKPLACE · WOODS BAGOT · 2024

A head office designed to feel like the land BHP mines

Woods Bagot redesigned BHP's floors at 171 Collins Street around organic “islands” in the middle of each floor, so the walkway meanders like a landscape. Hand-applied textured walls echo the earth's layers, blues and greens recall oxidised metal, and alcoves hold objects and stories from BHP's history. Much of the old fitout was kept and reused: the ground-floor business lounge with its folded aluminium ceiling, travertine reused as kitchen benchtops, and the existing furniture.

  • 5,200 m² (≈ 55,972 sq ft) of BHP workplace
  • Five floors cut to two and a half
  • Interiors: Woods Bagot
  • Signage: Studio Ongarato
  • Wellness rooms for quiet retreat
  • 2024 Dulux Colour Awards finalist
