THE HEADQUARTERS · XERO ONE · WELLINGTON

A heritage garage with five new floors inside

Xero One stands on the corner of Taranaki and Wakefield Streets. The two-storey heritage façade of the old Manthel Motors building — later a Second World War storehouse — was kept, and five new storeys were built inside it. A central stair, clad in century-old timbers salvaged from the refurbishment, links the five floors and lands beside a café area on each one. Around it is an activity-based office: phone rooms, focus booths, huddle and training rooms and open team areas, so people choose where to work moment by moment.

  • 5 open floors, daylight on three sides
  • Stair of reclaimed century-old timber
  • A café area on every floor
  • Heritage façade kept; 100% of new-building earthquake standard
  • Opened February 2018
