THE HEADQUARTERS · SOMA, SAN FRANCISCO

Two bars, a library, a park and a speakeasy — pick where you work each morning

GitHub started with people writing code in dive bars, coffee shops and home offices, so the designers rebuilt those places inside a three-story brick-and-timber building that was once a dried-fruit packing warehouse. There is a café on each level, a dojo, a meditation room, an indoor park, “coder caves”, a roof deck lounge and a reception that is an exact replica of the Oval Office. In 2026 a multi-story sculpture of the contribution graph, “Commit to the Future”, filled the old atrium.

  • 55,000 sq ft (≈ 5,110 m²)
  • Three stories, café on each level
  • Oval Office replica as reception
  • LEED Gold
  • 2014 IIDA Honor Award
  • Atrium sculpture: IA, 2026
