The headquarters roof is held up by the Seven Dwarfs — six of them 19 feet tall, with a 12-foot Dopey at the top.

The studio lot Snow White paid for, the building Michael Graves designed and 100 years of moves from a Hollywood storefront — then the benefits, the people and the pay. Every number from Disney's own pages and filings.

THE HEADQUARTERS · TEAM DISNEY – THE MICHAEL D. EISNER BUILDING · 1990

330,000 sq ft, held up by Doc, Happy, Sleepy, Sneezy, Bashful, Grumpy and Dopey

Disney's corporate headquarters since 1990 stands on the Burbank studio lot that Walt and Roy Disney bought with the profits of Snow White — which is why the Seven Dwarfs hold up its roof. Michael Graves gave it a post-modern neo-classical façade, double-barrel vaulted copper roofs, an outdoor courtyard with arcades, an indoor atrium, four screening rooms and a top-floor executive dining room, the Rotunda Dining Room, just above the Dwarfs. The building faces Disney Legends Plaza, where new studio employees start their first day reading the names of the Legends who came before them.

Office history: from the back of a Hollywood real estate office to the Burbank lot

  1. 1923
4651 Kingswell Avenue — half of a real estate office

With a contract for the Alice Comedies, Walt Disney rented the unused back half of a real estate office a couple of blocks from his uncle's house in Hollywood and moved in in October 1923. Soon the brothers rented the store next door, 4649 Kingswell — the Disney Brothers Cartoon Studio's first real location.

2719 Hyperion Avenue — The Walt Disney Studio

In January 1926 the studio moved to Hyperion Avenue in Los Angeles and took the name The Walt Disney Studio. Mickey Mouse was born here and Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs was made here, as new buildings were added for the growing staff.

On August 31, 1938, Walt and Roy Disney put down a $10,000 deposit on a $100,000, 51-acre tract owned by the Burbank Department of Water and Power — once a polo field for the Black Fox Military Academy. Construction began in 1939.

The Burbank studio by Kem Weber

The move from Hyperion began around January 1, 1940 and was finished on May 6, 1940. Kem Weber's three-story Animation Building gave every office a window and was one of the first major air-conditioned buildings in Southern California; Walt took office suite 3H on the third floor in January 1940. Most Hyperion buildings were sold and later razed for a supermarket.
