THE HEADQUARTERS · LEGO CAMPUS · 2022

Eight buildings, one playful campus in the middle of Billund

C.F. Møller designed LEGO Campus as eight building parts merged into one continuous work-and-play space around a large atrium, set in a park that is open to the public. Brightly coloured stairways mark the small squares where the buildings overlap, two giant LEGO bricks on the roof hold meeting spaces, and the roofs carry a greenhouse and a mini-golf course. On the ground floor, the People House has a sports arena, a gym, a cinema, a music room, a maker space and rooms for visiting colleagues.

  • 54,000 m² (≈ 581,000 sq ft)
  • About 2,000 people
  • Mini-golf course on the roof
  • LEED Gold
  • Design: C.F. Møller Architects
  • Outdoor furniture from 5,000 kg of recycled LEGO waste

Wooden toys, then a new name

In the farming crisis of 1932, Ole Kirk Kristiansen began making wooden toys. In late 1935 he chose the name LEGO, from the Danish “leg godt” (play well), used officially from January 1936.
