Carlsberg · Copenhagen, Denmark

Carlsberg's headquarters stands on the same Valby hill where J.C. Jacobsen started brewing in 1847 — one wing bridges a street, and a staircase with seat pads looks out over Carl Jacobsen's garden.

The Central Office by C.F. Møller Architects opened in March 2020: three wings joined by an atrium, a façade of glass and recycled copper, and a historic garden opened to the public. Then the culture, 179 years of history and the business — every fact from Carlsberg, its architect and its engineer.

THE CENTRAL OFFICE · CARLSBERG CITY · 2020

Three wings, one atrium and a garden opened to the city

The three wings meet in an atrium that opens onto Carl Jacobsen's Garden and links every floor into one working community. A wide staircase with seating pads is used for short breaks and informal meetings with a view of the garden. Faceted, angled wings give workplaces varied views for both fixed and “touch down” desks. Inside, floors are bamboo or ground concrete, and surfaces are left raw and untreated.

  • Design: C.F. Møller Architects
  • 15,500 m² offices + 7,700 m² basement & parking
  • Recycled-copper façade slats
  • Bamboo floors
  • Solar cells on the roof
  • Opened March 2020
