THE HEADQUARTERS · NICOLLET MALL · 2002

A tower built to fit its street, not just the skyline

Target Plaza South is the 1,200,000 sq ft second phase of Target's downtown headquarters campus. Its three-storey base, faced in Mankato-Kasota stone and Indiana limestone, matches the older buildings along Nicollet Mall, with shops at street level. Across the street, Target Plaza Commons turned two 1920s–30s buildings into a “non-corporate” place to work, with a bar, events space and a walled garden; in 2022 Target showed new headquarters “flex floors” with booths, lockers and lounges.

  • 1,200,000 sq ft (≈ 111,484 m²)
  • ≈ 6,000 people on one block
  • Stone-and-limestone street base

The 2022 flex floors

In 2022 Target reworked headquarters floors for hybrid work: bookable booths and team tables, lockers instead of assigned desks, and lounges for meeting in person.
