A building made for machines, reinvented for people

The heart of the HQ is the former Turbine Hall, a four-storey industrial space laid out like the quadrangle of a university campus. A free-standing black spiral staircase links all four floors from the entrance; at the other end a Work Café sits next to an Amphitheatre. Trees grow in the central spaces, and a landscaped rooftop terrace sits beside meeting rooms.

The Turbine Hall and the spiral staircase

The former Turbine Hall is a four-storey industrial space laid out like a university quadrangle, with a free-standing black spiral staircase linking all four floors.

Office history: from a coach house hayloft to a power station

1978
An 18th-century Coach House near Bath
James Dyson set up in a coach house next to his house near Bath. The first vacuum, DC01, was developed by four engineers in its hayloft and two working downstairs.

Malmesbury: a vacant lighting factory
Dyson quickly outgrew Chippenham and moved 10 miles up the road to Malmesbury, Wiltshire. The campus grew with the business and remains Dyson's UK headquarters.

Decision to move the global HQ to Singapore
Dyson, with teams in Singapore developing digital motors since 2011, announced in January 2019 that its first global headquarters would be in Singapore — closer to its suppliers, manufacturing and fastest-growing markets.

St James Power Station opens as the global HQ
On 25 March 2022 Dyson opened its HQ in the restored 1927 power station, in the presence of Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong. Malmesbury continues as a major R&D centre.

Dyson began with James Dyson's bagless cyclone vacuum. Today it calls itself a global technology company: vacuums and wet floor cleaners, hair care, air purifiers, headphones and lighting, built around its own digital motors, batteries and robotics.
