THE HEAD OFFICE · OTEMACHI PLACE EAST TOWER · 2018

“An office that creates chance encounters”

Sumitomo Corporation moved its head office to Otemachi Place East Tower in September 2018 and, for its 100th anniversary in 2019, rebuilt the way it works there. The concept is an office scattered with “kikkake” — chances for people to meet and connect, so that individual strengths add up to the strength of the organisation. Employees use free-address desks; the CO CAFE combines the employee canteen, a café and a pub with space for solo work, meetings and events; and an Open Innovation Lab brings together people from across departments.

  • Free address (hot desks)
  • CO CAFE: canteen + café + pub
  • In-house clinic (internal medicine and dentistry)
  • Massage room in the building
  • Interior design: Nikken Sekkei (2018)
  • ≈ 3,000 people in the office
