THE HEAD OFFICE · SHINAGAWA INTERCITY TOWER B · SINCE 1999
A tower Obayashi built, rebuilt inside for its 130th birthday
Obayashi works from Shinagawa Intercity, a three-tower complex it helped build in 1998. Inside, the “InterForum” — an open well with stairs from the 18th to the 28th floor — lets people walk between departments without the elevator. For the company's 130th anniversary, 22 floors were redesigned between 2019 and 2021: tall cabinets and partitions came out, a 50-meter corridor now runs straight across each floor, and fixed desks — managers' included — gave way to group seating.

- 22 floors redesigned, 2019–2021
- Each floor: two wings of ≈ 1,000 m² (≈ 10,800 sq ft) each
