A LEED Platinum headquarters in Aarhus, heated and cooled by 36 km of geothermal piping — Denmark's largest combined geothermal system.

Vestas started as a village blacksmith's workshop in Lem on Denmark's west coast. Today the world's wind-turbine pioneer runs its business from Hedeager in Skejby, north Aarhus, where Arkitema designed an office built around a glass-roofed street. Every number below is from Vestas, its architect or its landscape contractor.

An office built around a glass-roofed street

Arkitema designed House of Vestas (2008–2011) as Vestas' new head office in the business area of north Aarhus, visible to everyone arriving from the north. Its dark, reflecting glass-mosaic façade has movable glass plates controlled by the sun, and the building bends to mark its own entrance. Inside, a street in an atrium ties the offices together; meeting centres, an auditorium and the canteen line the street, and the flexible office layout allows rooms for one to twenty people without touching the technical installations. Vestas says the building collects rainwater for toilets and the grounds, sorts all waste, composts kitchen waste, and was built mostly with materials sourced within 800 km.
