Telenor · Fornebu, Norway

Telenor built its headquarters on Norway's former national airport, bringing about 6,000 people from 40 Oslo addresses under one roof — with kayaks in the basement and a private jetty on the fjord.

The Fornebu headquarters by NBBJ, HUS arkitekter and Per Knudsen Arkitektkontor opened in 2002: office wings no wider than 16 metres so daylight reaches almost every desk, atriums, a central plaza and fjord water for heating and cooling. Then the benefits, 170 years of history and the business — every fact from Telenor and its architects.

  • 137,000 m²of offices (≈ 1.47 million sq ft), opened 2002
  • 40 → 1Oslo addresses brought under one roof

THE HEADQUARTERS · FORNEBU

A workplace on a former airport by the Oslofjord

Telenor's headquarters stands on the site of Norway's former national airport at Fornebu, along the eastern shoreline. The winning design, “Uffizi Nuovi”, was unveiled in 1997. Offices are arranged in units of about forty people, floor plates are never more than 16 metres wide so daylight reaches almost every corner, and atriums link the floors to the boulevards and an open-air central plaza. Inside today: three canteens, the Expo Café furnished like a hotel lounge with fjord views, The HUB — a small house in the middle of the plaza with a coffee bar for all-hands meetings — and “heart zones” with coffee, fruit and chocolate drawers.
