American Airlines · Fort Worth, Texas

A 160-foot “contrail” built by the airline's own mechanics snakes over the dining hall of a 1.56 million sq ft headquarters.

    • 1,556,654 sq ft Skyview headquarters (≈ 144,617 m²)
    • 12,000+ people working on the new campus
    • 600 rooms training and hospitality complex for crews

Pelli Clarke & Partners designed the campus around American's idea of “One Campus, One Team”, bringing frontline and management teams to one site. Skyview 8 — four buildings joined by a Town Hall with shared spaces, dining and wellness amenities — is its heart. Inside, aviation is the décor: a 160-foot sculpture shaped like an airplane contrail, made of carbon fiber by maintenance technicians in Tulsa, hangs over the dining area, and a real Boeing 757 engine cowling is a place to sit for a photo.

    United Airlines · Chicago, Illinois

Thirteen floors of Willis Tower rebuilt with real aircraft parts — engine-shaped lights, a turbine coffee table and a winglet room divider.

    • 13 floors renovated inside Willis Tower
    • 740,000 sq ft headquarters restack (≈ 68,748 m²)
    • Unlimited standby travel for employees

IA Interior Architects renovated 13 floors of United's headquarters at Willis Tower for more than 3,000 staff. Real aircraft parts became furniture and lights, seat belts from retired planes became installations, and interconnecting stairs link departments. The final phase, the 28th-floor Tech Hub, adds a café with city views, an auditorium and a recording studio. Gensler designed a separate amenity floor where the 3,500+ United employees spread through the tower can meet.

    Lufthansa Group · Frankfurt, Germany

A glass “double comb” next to Frankfurt Airport, where every desk looks onto a garden themed on a different part of the world.

    • 9 indoor gardens in the Lufthansa Aviation Center
    • 2,400 workplaces under one glass roof
    • 13.9 yrs average time with the Group (2025)

Lufthansa calls the LAC its main operation base at Frankfurt Airport, where “the Group's course is set”. Christoph Ingenhoven designed a 180 m × 90 m building shaped like a double-sided comb with ten “teeth”. The gardens between them shield the offices from airport noise and represent landscapes from five continents — from a white sandy beach to the Australian outback and a Japanese Zen garden. A central passage links the lifts, mini-atriums and lounge-like meeting points, and seven artists made works for the building itself.

Delta Air Lines · Atlanta, Georgia

The airline still works around the hangars it moved into in 1941 — now a 68,000 sq ft museum in the heart of its Atlanta headquarters.

    • 1941 year the HQ moved to Atlanta
    • 68,000 sq ft museum inside the original 1940s hangars
    • Unlimited standby travel on any Delta flight

Delta's general offices sit at the Atlanta airport on land leased from the City of Atlanta, next to its largest maintenance base, training and flight-kitchen facilities. In the middle of the campus stand the original 1940s aircraft hangars, now the 68,000 sq ft Delta Flight Museum. Office buildings carry the names of people who shaped Delta: the Ambassador Andrew J. Young International Building, whose lobby was remodeled with museum display cases, and the Grinstein Executive Building.

    ANA · Tokyo, Japan

A curved green tower at the gateway to Shiodome, where the ANA Group's shared meeting rooms are named after the cities its planes fly to.

    • 47,826 people in the ANA Group (March 31, 2026)
    • 20 + 4 days paid leave plus summer leave, for every ANA employee
    • No core time flextime without core hours since 2007

Shiodome City Center sits at the Ginza end of the Shiodome redevelopment, the spot its builder calls “the gateway to Shiodome”. The tower is set diagonally on its site to make the most of the views, and its curved green outer walls were chosen because they disturb TV signals less and insulate well. Inside the ANA Group offices, shared meeting rooms carry the names of cities ANA flies to — staff say things like “next time in Paris” or “is Seattle free?” — and office lights switch off automatically after 8 p.m.
